IM=X Pilates

Pilates is a long established form of total body conditioning developed in the 1920's by Joseph H. Pilates. Pilates focuses on improving flexibility and strength by using controlled fluid uniformly. Pilates strengthens the core abdomen, low back and buttocks enabling the body to move freely and efficiently. Once popular among dancers, Pilates is an ideal conditioning program for men and women of all ages and fitness levels.

Stretch to Win Assisted Stretching

At Firm Body Fitness we use the Stretch to Win system of assisted stretching. Stretching helps to improve ease of movement, posture, and reduces injuries by making your muscles lengthen much more efficiently. Muscles are incapable of lengthening by themselves, they are only able to contract. Stretching is crucial to help your body more more freely.

The Stretch to Win system uses an advances stretch principle called proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) to help muscles release and lengthen more efficiently. PNF stretching uses scientific principles first established by physical therapists and neurophysiologists to get the best response possible. The Stretch to Win system uses PNF with unique combinations of angles, positions, and techniques to gain a greater range of motion.

Sports Conditioning

The American College of Sport's medicine's most recent public comment on youth strength training contends that strength training can be a safe and effective activity for children. Supervised weight training programs have been proven to enhance a youth's ability to recover from the repetitive overuse of muscles and that incurred during their sport performance. Their chance of injury is greatly reduced. Here at Firm Body Fitness our school aged athletes make incredible changes in their sports performance. We have been happy to see many of our athletes successfully compete at regional and national levels for many different sports.

Active Release Therapy

Active Release Therapy is a hands on touch and case management system that allows a practitioner to diagnose and treat soft tissue injuries. Specific injuries that respond to this therapy are repetitive strains, adhesions, and joint dysfunction. Using an active rather than passive system allows the practitioner to guide the patient though specific movement patterns, follow specific neurological patterns and allow the breakdown of scar tissue so that the injured tissue can heal and function normally.
